8 Ways to Distract Yourself During the Final Weeks of Pregnancy

Pregnancy is one long waiting game, with the longest waiting ever done in the last few weeks leading up to the birth of your baby. Then, in an instant it’s over and you’re wondering to yourself where all the time went.

The joys of pregnancy can bring with it; tiredness, achy everything, heartburn, and general feelings of being uncomfortable, among other not-so-joyful side effects.

If you’re in your third trimester and need something, anything, to take your mind off of the fact that your baby still hasn’t made their grand entrance, you’ve come to the right place.

#1 Go Out for Brunch

Grab some girlfriends, or your significant other and head to Red’s Diner. With two locations, Ramsay and the Beltline, you will be able to find one that works for you and the rest of your party’s needs.

Our suggestion:  Order the blueberry, basil and goats cheese stuffed French toast, served with a balsamic drizzle and blueberry coulee.  It is amazing, and your baby and your taste buds will thank you.

* Soft cheese in Canada is usually pasteurized, double check with your waiter to make sure that is the case with their cheese.

#2 Visit a Local Market

Get a head start on Christmas shopping this year while you enjoy the crisp fall air at the Christmas Night Market on November 4th from 5-11pm in Eau Claire Market (200 Barclay Parade SW).

You will be able to gather a ton of ideas -and maybe even pick up a few things –all while getting into the Christmas Spirit.

Who said November was too early for Christmas?

#3 Clear Your Mind with a Float

… and not the root beer kind.

Book a session (or two!) at Clear Float Spa. Floating in a sensory deprivation tank allows you to block out the rest of the world while your body becomes one with the perfect, body-temperature water.

Give your thoughts the freedom to leave your body; when was the last time you treated yourself to the relaxation that is thinking about nothing?

Clear Float Spa is located at 1800 4th street SW #105

* check in with your OB or midwife before booking to make sure this is right for you

#4 Pamper Yourself at Your Local Spa

Frilly Lilly offers a range in services from mani/pedi’s to eyelash tinting.

When that third trimester hits and you can no longer reach your toes (let’s be real, it was a struggle ever since the second trimester hit), take yourself to one of nine Calgary locations and treat your toes to a pedicure.

While you’re there you might as well get a manicure -mini massages come complimentary with manicures and pedicures. BONUS!

#5 Sightsee Downtown

If you want to get some fresh air while enjoying some beautiful scenery and optional people watching, take some time to walk around Prince’s Island Park.

It is home to several major festivals throughout the year, but is usually much quieter through the winter months.

#6 Explore a National Park Near You

Banff is always a great option if you’re wanting a day trip.

Take the gondola up to Sulphur Mountain for some great views (and an impromptu photo op) or walk around the town and marvel at all of the boutique stores.

Want to extend your trip for the weekend? Stay at the luxurious Fairmont Springs Hotel and indulge in some well-deserved pampering at the Willow Stream Spa – rated the top hotel spa in all of Canada in 2015.

#7 Enjoy a Quiet Night at Home

Staying in can be as enjoyable as going out.

Send your partner out with a list of your favorite snacks while you set up Netflix on the big screen.  Enjoy a night of cuddling under the blankets with your favorite snacks and a great Netflix series.

*you may want to save this one until November 25th when Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life makes its debut.

#8 Savor Dinner at a Local Hotspot

Call ahead to make a reservation or take your chances and head downtown to Cibo. You’ll be entranced by the aromas of fresh, delectable food while sitting in the cozy Italian-inspired eatery.

Our suggestion: order the pumpkin ravioli and pear pizza to share!

Cibo is located at 1012 17 Ave SW
